Credential Fields Review and Comment

Subject:  Review and Comment under Policy 3.32 College Faculty Credentialing for
Proposed Development and/or Revision of Credential Fields and Minimum Qualifications

Please review the attached credential fields and associated minimum qualifications in the following areas.  They were originally distributed on the dates noted and are being redistributed without change.
  • Gas Utility Construction and Service – Originally distributed for review and comment April 12, 2016
  • Heavy Equipment Maintenance – Originally distributed for review and comment February 12, 2015
  • Heavy Equipment Operations – originally distributed for review and comment February 12, 2015
Please immediately share this correspondence with faculty, administrators, student association leadership and other appropriate staff for review and comment.  All comments and suggestions are welcome from all constituent groups.

Gas Utility Construction and Service Credential Field 
Minimum Qualifications:
Education Requirement:  Diploma or completion of an apprenticeship in gas utility construction and service or plumbing or pipefitting.
Occupational Experience Requirement:  Four full-time (or equivalent) years of verified related paid work experience installing, maintaining and operating gas distribution and supply systems in residential, commercial and industrial sites.
Recency Requirement:  One year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field.  The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.

Heavy Equipment Maintenance Credential Field
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Two year diploma in a heavy equipment and maintenance program or a diesel and heavy equipment technology program. 
Occupational Experience: Four full-time (or equivalent) years of verified related paid experience in heavy equipment maintenance or heavy equipment repair. 
Recency Requirement: One year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field. The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.

Heavy Equipment Operations Credential Field
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Two year diploma in a heavy equipment operations program. 
Occupational Experience: Four full-time (or equivalent) years of verified related paid work experience in heavy equipment operations. 
Recency Requirement: One year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field. The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.
Professional Requirement: Current Minnesota Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
